We are FUNDECYT-PCTEx, a non-profit foundation within the Public Sector of Extremadura, promoted by the Regional Government of Extremadura and the University of Extremadura.

Creation of FUNDECYT

The Foundation for the Development of Science and Technology in Extremadura was established as an interface connecting the Regional Government, science, and businesses in Extremadura, using science, technology, and innovation to drive regional development.

The INFODEX Project

FUNDECYT presented the INFODEX project (Regional Information Society Strategy) to the European Union, developed between 2000 and 2006, and recognised by the European Commission as a model to follow.

The R.I.S. Project and CIEM Programme

FUNDECYT participated in the R.I.S. Extremadura Project and the CIEM Programme, acting as a mediator between the administration, research centres, and businesses, while promoting innovation and technological development in the region.

Establishment of CNI-FUNDECYT and Vivernet-FUNDECYT

Centre for New Initiatives (CNI-FUNDECYT) in Badajoz, dedicated to open-source software and digital literacy. Vivernet-FUNDECYT in Cáceres and Badajoz, supporting technology-based business incubators.

Creation of PCTEx

The Extremadura Science and Technology Park Foundation (PCTEx) was founded to manage and promote the Science and Technology Park of Extremadura.

Opening of the Provisional PCTEx Headquarters

After a period of planning and design, PCTEx began operations in 2010, opening its first headquarters in the former School of Industrial Engineering in Badajoz.

Inauguration of PCTEx Buildings in Badajoz & Cáceres (CEINNTEC)

The PCTEx buildings in Badajoz and Cáceres, along with the CEINNTEC building, were officially inaugurated, relocating the park to permanent headquarters on land provided by the University of Extremadura (UEx) within its Cáceres and Badajoz campuses.

Merger of FUNDECYT & PCTEx

FUNDECYT and PCTEx merged to create FUNDECYT-PCTEx, combining:
  • FUNDECYT’s expertise in R&D&I policy design and implementation and innovation projects.
  • PCTEx’s deep understanding of the business reality of the Science, Technology, and Innovation System (SECTI).
  • On 1st January 2013, the Foundation for the Development of Science and Technology (FUNDECYT) and the Extremadura Science and Technology Park Foundation (PCTEx) merged, creating FUNDECYT-PCTEx.
  • This union consolidated the objectives, expertise, and human capital of both organisations, establishing FUNDECYT-PCTEx as a key institution in structuring the science, technology, research, and innovation system in Extremadura.
FUNDECYT-PCTEx was designated by the Regional Government of Extremadura as the technical body responsible for defining the Smart Specialisation Strategy for Research and Innovation (RIS3) in Extremadura. Since then, it has served as the Technical Office for RIS3.

FUNDECYT-PCTEX fue designada por la Junta de Extremadura como organismo responsable a nivel técnico de la definición de la Estrategia de Especialización Inteligente en Investigación e Innovación (RIS3) para Extremadura, desde entonces, FUNDECYT-PCTEX ha desempeñado la función de Oficina Técnica de la RIS3. La Fundación para el Desarrollo de la Ciencia y la Tecnología (FUNDECYT) y la Fundación Parque Científico y Tecnológico de Extremadura (PCTEx) se fusionaron el 1 de enero de 2013, dando lugar a una nueva entidad: FUNDECYT-PCTEx. Esta fusión reúne los objetivos y fines de ambas organizaciones, así como su capital humano, actividades y conocimientos, consolidándose como un organismo clave para la articulación del sistema de ciencia, tecnología, investigación e innovación de Extremadura.

Nace de la combinación de la experiencia europea e internacional que FUNDECYT ha acumulado desde 1995, y del profundo conocimiento del PCTEx sobre la realidad empresarial del sistema extremeño de ciencia, tecnología e innovación, desde su creación en 2009.
