Addressing Societal Challenges with PREPSOIL: the Missions Working Group

Compartir

The Missions Working Group addresses urgent societal issues and aims among other things to distribute knowledge, best practices, and resources from projects involving ERIAFF members, such as prepsoil.

The European Union has launched the Missions Working Group to tackle pressing societal challenges. With clear objectives and mobilization of public and private actors, including EU regions and local authorities, these initiatives aim for transformative impact. Through the Spanish foundation working for the exchange of know-how, science, and technology, FUNDECYT-PCTEX, PREPSOIL is represented in the Working Group.
Here, the key areas identified by the Commission include: Soil Health and Food, Climate Change Adaptation, and Ocean, Seas, and Waters – aligning closely with ERIAFF’s main areas of work.

For ERIAFF members, there’s an opportunity to engage in regional initiatives focusing on soil health, water management, and climate adaptation, positioning them to adapt to evolving regulatory landscapes.

Main goals of the Missions Working Group

The primary objectives of the Missions Working Group include supporting regions in the implementation of missions, facilitating knowledge exchange and best practices, and disseminating resources generated by relevant projects involving ERIAFF members, such as PREPSOIL.

Soil Mission in 2024

The Soil Mission for 2024 aims to facilitate its deployment across European regions by:

  • engaging stakeholders in future Living Labs across different land use types for identifying regional approaches to activities such as the evaluation of soil needs;
  • mobilizing public and private actors – such as research institutes, farmers and land managers;
  • promoting the creation of Soil Stewards to bridge the gap between end-users, science, and policy.

Led by Extremadura (Spain), the working group invites collaborators to join in managing these initiatives. Regular meetings will ensure ongoing coordination and adaptability to emerging needs.

The Missions Working Group underscores the EU’s commitment to driving meaningful change through collaborative action. Stay tuned for updates on progress and impact!
